Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator 3: Fire

This trainer course prepares participants to teach this exciting specialty program. In the 6- to 8-hour program, career and volunteer apparatus operators will learn practical defensive driving techniques -- focusing on the operator's ability to read traffic conditions, act accordingly, and prevent collisions in both emergency and non-emergency situations.

What you'll learn

  • Adverse weather conditions
  • Intersections
  • Passing and lane changes
  • Vehicle placement in traffic
  • Fire apparatus design characteristics
  • Avoiding backing incidents
  • Rural and urban driving
  • Traffic hazard identification

Take the program with you

Participants receive a complete Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator 3: Fire TM Instructor Kit, a day's training. Additional attendees from the same location can attend and receive their own leader's guide, (but not instructor's kit) for a nominal fee.

The instructor kit includes:

  • Fully-scripted Instructor Guide
  • Video Presentation on DVD or VHS
  • Group Discussion Diagrams to reinforce key coaching points (provided on the DVD or in PowerPoint on a CD-ROM)
  • Reproducible Observational Checklist
  • Driver Response Book with exam
